Several studies have highlighted the positive impacts of music therapy for individuals with physical impairments resulting neurological conditions. Many patients find these therapies to be significantly challenging.
We developed an interactive musical instrument in the form of a simple and popular child's toy. Hidden sensors and intelligent gesture recognition allows the user to follow a guided musical compositon by squeezing, tilting, shaking and other intuitive and playful gestures. The textile-based pressure sensors hidden in the fabric of the ball have a high degree of sensitivity so patients with limited grip strength can still play the instrument effectively.
